Sophie Dawes or The Baronne de Feucheres (c.1795-1840) was born at St Helen's, Isle of Wight, apparently the daughter of an alcoholic fisherman. She grew up in the workhouse at Newport and as a servant in Portsmouth and London, eventually becoming the mistress of the Duc de Bourbon. After various scandalous relationships, she became a well known figure at the Court of Louis XVIII. Her children went on to marry French nobles whilst she became embroiled in the death of the Duc de Bourbon. At the end of her life she returned to London and her grave can still be seen in Kensal Green Cemetery.

Queen Victoria awarded Bruno the honorary title of "Knight of the Royal Bath". Apparently stuffed at royal request following his death, Bruno was later purchased by Professor Copperthwaite from the Lost Property Office at Paddington Station.
