134 A FRIEDRICH GOLDSCHEIDER VIENNESE POLYCHROME TERRACOTTA FIGURE of a smiling young Negro, wearing a pointed hat, yellow jacket and green trousers, seated on a contemporary bamboo chair, total height 22.5". This figure almost certainly represents the entertainer Bill "Bo Jangles" Robinson 1878-1949 the happy-go-lucky star of American Vaudeville. An orphan raised by his grandmother, a former slave, the "king of the tap dancers" career began when, aged 6 he performed in beer gardens as a "Hoofer", or song and dance man.
