BENNETT HUBBARD Phillip Skipwith (sometimes Skipworth) of Ailesby, on a chestnut hunter, with sheep and buildings beyond, the reverse inscribed "Painted by B. Hubbard, Jan, 1844", oil on canvas, 34.25" x 29.25", in an 18th century carved giltwood and gesso frame. See illustration Known as "Galloping Skipwith", apparently this work was presented by the local Lincolnshire Hunt. He was a great rider to hounds and a breeder of long wool sheep. He was also a JP for Lincolnshire and a High Sheriff for the County. "Skipworth's Leap" in Lincolnshire was the name given to an almost impossible jump. £2000-4000 | Nil |
