A LARGE SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND COCKTAIL RING, the large cushion-cut sapphire of pale cornflower blue colour, claw set and surrounded by a stylised pave-set border of round graduated brilliant-cut diamonds, on a raised open geometric design framework, on an unmarked white metal shank with raised open shoulders, each set with two graduated baguette-cut diamonds and a further round brilliant-cut diamond intersecting the diamond border to reach the sapphire. 809 A MID 19TH CENTURY ARCHAEOLOGICAL REVIVAL PARURE, the gilt metal mesh choker necklace with 17 graduated coral drops, each drop with a carved frog, flower and a further carved coral scarab beetle, the gilt metal clasp with further granulated floral and rope-twist decoration, with a carved coral flowerhead to each side, the clasp indistinctly stamped, together with a conforming scarab beetle, frog and flowerhead target brooch, a pair of drop earrings and a bangle, in a fitted case. See illustration This style of jewellery was inspired by the Etruscan Archaeological discoveries of the mid 19th century. Whilst Italian jewellers such as Castellani and Guiliano pioneered this style, it is likely that this example contains exported Neapolitan coral but was modelled by an English jeweller. Robert Phillips & John Brogdan, both English jewellers, produced a number of Archaeological Revival parures, similar to this example. £2000-4000
