STANHOPE ALEXANDER FORBES RA (1857-1947) A study of a woman seated on a harbour wall, oil on canvas, 39.5" x 29.25". See illustration. Provenance: Acquired in the 1980's in Causwayhead, Penzance. This composition bears a striking resemblance to a fully signed watercolour study by Forbes, featuring what appears to be the same model in the same location. The sitter appears to be Annie Blewett, who was also the subject of one of Forbes's most celebrated works 'The Harbour Window' which was painted in the upstairs sitting room of the Ship Inn in Mousehole, Cornwall, which Blewett lived next door to. Given the curvature of the harbour wall and the headland beyond, it is a fair assumption that this work was also undertaken in Mousehole.
