Lot 33. A COMMEMORATIVE GILT GLASS RUMMER

A COMMEMORATIVE GILT GLASS RUMMER, the ovoid bowl decorated with the Sandwich coat of arms, the reverse with the date "Augst 1799" in an oval cartouche between "Sandwich Aunt Brave & Free", gilt rim, on a stepped stem and square foot, 6.25" high, 4.25" dia. The inscription and date may be a reference to the visit of William Pitt when as a Prime Minister he was accompanied by King George III to Sandwich to review the troops stationed at the port.
