AN ELECTIONEERING WINE GLASS, the round funnel bowl engraved "SHAFTO FOR EVER" above a moth and budding foliage, on a single-series opaque-twist stem and circular foot, c.1765, 6" high, 2.75" dia. The inscription refers to an election held in the city of Durham, 17th April 1761 for the parliamentary seat of Co. Durham, contested by Robert Shafto, Frederick Vane and Thomas Clavering.
