AN IMPORTANT AND LARGE NEWCASTLE GLASS RUMMER, the bucket bowl engraved with a presentation inscription within a sunburst cartouche "A Present from / Js Sears of Newcastle / To / Thos Jones Hollywell ferry / Huntington Shire", the reverse with a horse pulling barges along a canal below the rhyme "In Newcastle this Glafs was made cut & Engraved / Fill it up to the brim boys be not Affraid / And Drink Success to the Coal Trade", on a waisted stem and square moulded lemon squeezer foot, c.1800-20, 8.5" high, 5.75" dia. This glass produced in Newcastle, the centre of glass making, is believed to have never been offered at auction previously. Provenance: The Buxton Collection of engraved glass
