Duke’s Avenue auctions are excited to be holding a valuation day for their upcoming sale of Toys and Collectables. Their inaugural Toy sale was a great success, with top prices achieved for vendors, and buyers finding a range of toys from Victorian, to vintage 1980s, and modern pieces. Duke’s are hoping to build on this success, and already have a fantastic selection of toys consigned for their upcoming sale. They will be holding a valuation day on Tuesday 2nd August, where ours valuers are will be providing free valuations of any item of Toys and Collectables.
Since moving into the Weymouth Avenue saleroom in the market place, Duke’s Avenue saleroom have increased their number of sales, and branched into specialist sales, holding a Toy sale, and a successful vintage sale. The toy sale was their first sale to be offered online, which was a massive step forward for the saleroom. They saw 3000 online visitors to the online saleroom, and this massive increase in footfall certainly helped increase visibility for the lots and pushed prices higher than before. They hope that this Toy sale will be bigger than ever, and already have a range of items consigned.
Auctioneer specialist Philip Traves, an avid collector of the quirky, unusual and vintage himself, states ‘There is a charm about older toys which appeals to ‘inner-child’ in collectors! Toys from the 1960s and 70s can time travel you back to your childhood, and this nostalgia teamed with the stylish designs of mid-century toys, and top quality construction, make them the perfect collectors piece. Our expansion into online bidding has massively increased the market for our sales, and we can offer consigners the opportunity to give their item an international market, all from our local and friendly Dorchester saleroom!’
For the car-enthusiast, there is a wonderful collection of Dinky and Corgi toys, and a very interesting private collection of automobile books on more unusual classic cars, including AC Cobras, and luxury British brand Bristol’s. The ephemera lover will find plenty to choose from, with vintage film posters, postcards and printed ephemera. Boat buyers have the opportunity to race the old against the new, as there is a stately early 20th century pond yacht, and an impressive modern hand built remote controlled fishing boat both up for sale. For doll lovers, there are lovely examples, ranging from a fashionable 1930’s doll with a full selection of art deco garments, and a marvellous wax-headed Victorian doll, which has been treasured by generations of children. For those looking for the unusual, there is a 1960s chemistry set, complete with glass test tubes and chemicals, for the budding 1960’s scientist!
