Duke’s are delighted to be holding their inaugural evening sale on the 12th April as part of their 2017 series of Paintings sales. The auction will be held the evening before the Fine Art sale of the 13th, and is designed to offer new art buyers the chance to purchase a contemporary work at an affordable price point. There will be an evening viewing with pre-sale drinks and canapes served from 5.30pm, leading up to the sale at 6.30pm.
Auction can be the perfect place to purchase art – prices are often less than advertised Gallery prices, making it an affordable and exciting starting point for buyers just starting to build their collection. Many good collections have started with works under £100, and this sale includes many eye catching pieces, screened for quality and authenticity, starting from only £50. The most expensive lot stands at £6,000, but there are many pieces in-between offering every budget a chance to secure an original work of art.
The sale will include 150 lots of Modern British and Contemporary works of art in mediums ranging from linocuts, acrylics and oils to watercolours and marble sculpture. The majority of these lots have been consigned by The Art House Gallery in Bournemouth and are to be sold as part of their retirement dispersal sale. The gallery proprietor, Paul Watts, has invaluable experience in the art world; successfully running the gallery for the past seven years and amassing his own personal collection for the past 30 years. He has used this knowledge and understanding to carefully curate the selection of works he sold through The Art House. The pieces on offer includes a diverse range of styles and subjects, and some of the best contemporary artists currently on the market.

Many of the lots due to go under the hammer are by artists from the West Country, and include Lauren Bissell, artist in residence for the Dorset Wetlands Trust at Brownsea Island, Claire Wiltshire from Lyndhurst in the New Forest and Teresa Lawton who has a studio near Corfe Castle. Highlights of the sale include ‘Portrait of Karen’ by West Country artist Robert Lenkiewicz. This painting (estimate: £6,000-12,000) depicts a portrait of Karen, Lenkiewicz’s lover, pregnant with his child.
The sale will be on view from Saturday 8th, alongside the Fine Art sale which is set to take place at 10.30am on the 13th.  Entries for this ‘Affordable Arts’ auction are still being invited. Please contact Amy Brenan at [email protected] for a free valuation, or call the saleroom on 01305 265080 for more information on buying and selling.
