Duke’s Books & Manuscripts department holds two sales a year, as part of our fine art programme, and has achieved significant success with the sale of rare works by renowned authors such as Charles Dickens, Geoffrey Chaucer and Jane Austen. We also specialise in renowned local authors notably Thomas Hardy and T.E. Lawrence.
Duke’s reputation as a market leader in this area was cemented in 2007, with the sale of the Library of Jean Preston, a collection of considerable importance. Dealing in everything from early printed works to modern manuscripts and rare first editions, the department also handles maps, autographs and ephemera.
